Early Pay

In collaboration with American Express, I was involved in designing a tool aimed at facilitating the negotiation of payment terms for outstanding invoices. This tool addressed the complex needs of organizations managing numerous vendor relationships, where each vendor frequently submits invoices corresponding to various purchase orders. Typically, payment terms for such invoices are set at net 30, net 60, or even up to net 90 days, indicating the period within which payment should be made following invoice submission.

The "Early Pay" program developed with American Express introduced a novel approach to managing these payments. It allowed organizations to negotiate early payment terms with vendors, offering a discount in exchange for expedited payment. This system automatically calculated the Annual Percentage Rate (APR) difference based on the reduced payment duration and generated a quote reflecting a discounted total amount, thus incentivizing vendors to accept earlier payments at a slightly reduced rate.

Designing the user interface for this system involved multiple iterations. I utilized Sketch to design the interface and developed a functional prototype. This prototype underwent extensive user testing through UserTesting.com, providing valuable insights that informed the design of a second version of the tool. This refined version was subsequently presented to senior executives at American Express, leading to the project's approval and progression to a further development phase.

My responsibilities extended to updating the existing version of the Early Pay system. I focused on integrating the new design elements into the current system using CSS, ensuring that the functionality aligned with the design language established in the early prototype. This project not only succeeded in enhancing the payment negotiation process for American Express and its vendors but also resulted in the promotion of the project owner, reflecting the project's impact and success. Following the completion of this initiative, both our team and I transitioned to exploring and developing other significant projects.
