SoStream
An early venture I undertook at Digital Surgeons was the development of "Social Stream," a pioneering project that functioned as a real-time search engine for social networks. This tool allowed users to input a keyword, aggregating relevant content from major platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter. Unlike conventional search engines, Social Stream displayed results on an innovative, time-based interface, organizing content along a timeline for an intuitive browsing experience.
Users could curate a collection of posts—typically five or six—related to their search query, compiling these into a personalized "social stream." This curated stream could then be shared with others, offering a snapshot of conversations, topics, or hashtags within a specific timeframe. This feature provided a unique way to capture and disseminate the essence of social media discussions at any given moment.
Developed using Flash and ActionScript 3, Social Stream stood out for its engaging interface, which was considered more elaborate than necessary by some but underscored the potential of technology to transform how we interact with digital content. While serving as a functional piece of software, Social Stream also played a critical role in initiating discussions about the capabilities and future possibilities of technological innovation in the early days of social media.
